There was a glorious moment when the wind changed and his nostrils were filled with the scent of Kitty's excitement and anticipation. Then she moved and like the team they were, Derek knew she'd go high so he went low, trying to take the creature to the floor with their combined strength.
The thing felt vaguely human, but the skin was tough and hard, putting Derek in mind of a dog chew-toy as he bit deeply into it's leg and helping Kitty bring it to the floor. It tasted and smelled so wrong, though, he wasn't concerned that they'd made a mistake. Instead he tried to get enough traction to hit something vitally important to keeping it alive, increasingly aware that it's arms were thrashing in both his and Kitty's directions, attempting to swat at them both with inhuman strength.
Derek hadn't been anticipating claws, until he felt them dig into his haunch forcing him to growl in pain as he shook his prey. He wanted to warn Kitty, but the smell of blood coming from the wound would be enough to let her know it wasn't going down without a fight.
