He slid Kitty a sly smirk and shrugged, "that is a distinct possibility. You'd think I had more than enough trouble on my hands already with the whole haunted hotel situation, huh?" Apparently, when it came to trouble Derek was just plain greedy. "And also with you," he said with teasing nudge. The space of the place was making him itchy and it'd been too long since they'd had so much territory to explore. Let alone a place to hunt.
Derek caught the gleam in Kitty's eye as she took in the scent and grinned. Yeah, he wasn't the only one getting itchy paws and he was looking forward to tracking down that scent and seeing where it led. While she Changed, he kept watch, knowing that this was when his mate was at her most vulnerable to attack. It was also a time for privacy. He'd collect her clothes later, if she wanted to sleep off her wolf-form back at the hotel, rather than out here in the wild.
When Kitty emerged he flashed her a smile and gave her muzzle a gentle stroke as he slipped into the bushes, switching spots with her. He wasn't entirely certain his fiance knew how much it meant to him to see her wearing her ring, even in her wolf form. Just seeing the chain made his heart ache, just a little bit, and it gave him an extra boost of energy to use to Change.
It wasn't long before he was back beside her, his nose raised to the wind, his ears flattening slightly in puzzlement. Whatever the bad-thing was, he'd never smelled anything like it before.
