Theo was relieved to see Gilmore not too far behind them, and as Helios landed he sped over to the man. He fluttered around in excitement, then landed as Gilmore held out his palm. His eyes closed in pleasure as Gilmore's fingers stroked his feathers, and he let out a happy little chirp, followed by another one when Gilmore asked if he wanted to be in his human form again. He hoped it would be taken as the agreement it was.
The shift back to human form was almost instantaneous, and he took a minute to get his bearings again. It was something of a shock to go from human to bird to human in such a short span of time, but not an unpleasant one. "Yes. I think leading him back to the hotel is best. I have no idea how this happened, but I'd feel safer if he was closer to the hotel." Helios might not agree, but right now he looked pretty content where he was nibbling at a patch of clover.
"It was amazing and has me questioning if I'm right in what my Animagus form will be. Flying felt...natural, once I got my wings under me. It will be interesting to see how that plays out." He had mentioned the Animagus transformation to Gilmore during one of their afternoons, so the man wouldn't be too lost in following Theo's train of thought. "But this was amazing. Can you turn me into other birds--no, don't answer that. It can wait. We should get back to the hotel." He leaned into the touch in his hair, his cheek, and leaned in for a kiss. They were alone now, and there was no harm in taking a moment to follow the impulse. Then, after too brief a time, he pulled back.
"I want to get Helios and get back to the hotel. We've been lucky so far, and I don't want to press that luck." He squeezed Gilmore's wrist, then slowly headed over to the horse. He took a few minutes to fuss over him, soothing his feathers and stroking his neck. Helios seemed content enough and allowed himself to be led back to Gilmore. "I think he'll follow us well enough. I'd suggest that we fly, but flying tandem bareback is probably too much of a risk." He hoped that one day he'd be able to take Gilmore up on Helios, but today wasn't that day.
