Conrad followed Wesley down the alley, trying to come up with an explanation as to why the streets could possibly be empty. An evacuation of some sort did seem likely. But.. why? The city looked in tact. Nothing was invading or destroying it, from what he could tell. He managed to smile over Wesley's question, though, shaking his head.
"Kong? Eat someone? Well, yes, I suppose he could..." And had. Once. But Kong had only been defending his territory. It hadn't been because he was hungry. So Conrad would conveniently leave that little detail out. "But I'd guess that he has nothing to do with this. His island is off the coast of Indonesia. I wouldn't worry too much about him showing up."
There were certainly others that could have made an appearance, according to Monarch, but Conrad had a feeling there would be a lot more destruction if that were the case..
He slowed Wesley down, taking him by the shoulders and turning him to face him. "Hey, maybe this isn't what it looks like.. The hotel does weird things, right? What if it really is just New York, but empty?" It was a boldly optimistic statement for a pessimist to make. But if they were in any real danger, surely they would have known it by now. "Why don't we try to enjoy ourselves? And if it's too creepy or feels too much like a ghost town, we'll turn around and go back to the hotel. How about that?"
