There was at leas that, despite the disapproval of the various ghosts that haunted them. Diana had an idea that in fact this hotel was not related to each of them, but rather that each ghost here was using their own memories against them. The Library Ghost, as John Constantine had told her, was prone to make book suggestions if one waited long enough. So these ghosts stood on their own, but perhaps it was easy enough to see what would distract each of them, or hurt them, and make use of it.
“Ah,” she said, and that was all that needed saying. Both of them knew what that meant, as well, and he confided in her rather more than she had about her own event. Despite the ending, and whatever anyone else might think about it, there was no denying that he did want her. She had not been so fool as to have been misreading things, and that did give her some comfort.
The idea of there being a third kiss someday made her stomach do a flip as she took his hand, letting him help her, as though she needed it. She simply stepped closer to him. “I do not know fear.” The call and response so ingrained in her that the mere suggestion required it, though her tone was not at all aggressive. Simply a statement, as though she’d announced the sky was blue. “I’m sorry for what I’m sure was an unwelcome surprise. And quite a fun new hopping dance.”
And Diana leaned into his side as she did giggle, finally, just a little. She couldn’t help it. “Are you all right?”
