Diana smoothed her hands over her jeans while she waited, more of a nervous reaction than anything, though she had nothing to be nervous about. Perhaps it was simply this place, wearing on her and making her question every decision she made. Even the decision (rushed though it had been) not to hide who she truly was from anyone here was one she questioned. When she’d arrived, she had thought that announcing herself and her power might make their adversary come forth. That had not been the case, but it had led Diana to more friends, others similar to her. Even the humans here were... different, so far. Diana had never felt so at home, not since leaving Themyscira.
“The Amazons were meant to spread messages of love and peace to the humans,” she said thoughtfully, and she smiled. “I would hope I could make a friend or two, with that in mind. I’m sure you’ve made friends too. Besides me.” Diana wanted to be clear that they were friends, because she quite liked Kal. He seemed like a good man, and the world could always use more good men. Good people, really, but the sentiment remained. “Oh, all sorts are interesting. I knew John Constantine before arriving here, so that has been a comfort.”
It had been, although something of a shock, too. “I work as an art curator now, as my official position, but I keep a hand in archeology and artifact collection, and of course, black markets and the sale of art and artifacts. Most of that is because that is the easiest way to find things that might be dangerous to the humans, and John Constantine has helped me hide some of those artifacts, and find them, and handle them.” Diffuse them, in some cases. There had never been romance of any kind between them, but Diana loved John all the same, her brother in battle against the evil forces of the world they shared.
“Natasha runs a security patrol, and she is... different. A human, I think, but calmer. Quieter. She would vex us in battle, despite having absolutely no right to.” These were compliments, and Diana meant them with her whole heart. Diana was fairly sure John and Natasha were an item, but no one had said as such explicitly, and she didn’t like to tell tales, so she remained silent on that. Besides, it was neither her nor Kal’s business, nor relevant to the question. “Dick Grayson knew me, when I arrived here, though I did not know him. Presumably we share a world as well.”
She joined him on his way out to the skating floor, and continued. “Thor is a Thunder God, and he is a solid and true companion.” Diana had thought for a long moment before she’d mentioned Thor, because there was much more to say about him. But that was enough to suffice, and nevermind that Diana’s face had reddened as she’d said it. Hopefully Kal would be too busy skating to notice. “I haven’t, with the humans, but I do not have much experience with it. Steve Trevor crashed his plane in Themysciran waters, so I had no reason to lie to him. When we rejoined humanity, I had not planned to lie. He spoke over me, and then convinced me that humanity was not ready. And I have believed that, until I arrived here.” Diana shrugged, and looked over to Kal.
“Besides, even if you meet these people later, in your own world, they will not remember. I am told those who have left here and returned go back to the moment they left, with no memories of this place. I have not seen such myself or spoken with anyone directly, but others have been here longer and have more information than I do.”
