Hannibal was aware of Will's approach. He knew the sound of his friend's walk, the scent of his skin. His eyes were still closed when Will stood beside him, his lips lifted in a faint, gentle smile.
"A hallucination cannot be shared," he answered, voice just as calm. "If we are to believe that both of us are truly here, then we cannot explain this based upon some phenomenon in our neurons due to our imminent demise. As for an afterlife, I had considered that. Purgatory, perhaps. Hell had crossed my mind, but I'm afraid I must abandon it. If it were Hell, then you would not be here."
He opened his eyes and turned his head to look at his friend. There was no anger, no vengeance. Only happiness to see his dear friend.
