Situation after situation, memory flowing from one to the next, Dan took in everything he could, looking through the scenes for anything extra that might give clues to the causes of each. Even the positive and yet still shocking scenes he tried to analyze in that manner. She was still a kid, came from a better home than he had with loving parents that supported her and very little actual trauma, so she might not have fully realized the dangers that could have been lurking.
The lack of the shine felt empty in the memories. To have it completely taken away might have been thought of as a blessing before he met Abra, but to feel it in her memories he realized how hollow it would have been- something more to fill with drink than he already had experienced.
He smiled at her explanation, the turn of his lips always subdued if it was anything less than a laugh of a grin. Decades of holding in or repressing any true emotions meant little made it to his expressions. "But what's the purpose of this place? It's not an afterlife." He sighed.
