Re: Theo/J'mon
It seemed that J'mon was going to end up getting into the classifications and politics anyhow. But the way that Theo parceled out his questions and directed the information that interested him was much easier than just trying to tell the whole story from the beginning. It was a good quality. "Oh no," J'mon said, shaking their head, "only the chromatics - well," they paused, the tone suggesting that wasn't entirely true, and tipped their head thoughtfully. "There are some green dragons who can shapeshift, but the legends say they are descended from a copper who turned bad and their scales were tarnished as punishment." It was a good story, but not widely known outside of Bahamut's most devout followers. Not that J'mon thought any knowledge should be treated as secret or exclusive.
"There are five metallics - gold, silver, bronze, brass, and copper. There are rumors of steel, iron, mercury, and adamantine. And the one platinum dragon. But metallics are more likely to interbreed with one another - especially the silvers - so hybrids are bound to happen. There are also five chromatics - black, white, red, blue, and green. Again, there are rumors of purples and browns. And the rarest of all, the gemstones, are said to come from a cross between a metallic and chromatic. Unwanted by either parent and cast into the Underdark." There were also sea dragons and astral dragons, but it was already a very long and complicated discussion and this was only the tip of the iceberg.
While Theo talked about his own experiences, J'mon quietly summoned an invisible hand and sent it off to fetch them a drink. Mostly just to have something to do in the pauses. "The young ones can be especially wild too," they smiled, reaching out as the glass seemed to simply float into their hand. "The chromatics have their own goddess. Tiamat. Her nature is evil, therefore her children are made in her image. Bahamut is good, and his children are made in his image likewise. The most honorable are probably the silver dragons. There is certainly a scale-" pun entirely unintended, "-that they fall on. Few things in life are absolute, after all." They reached out and settled their hand on Theo's arm again. "You indulge me, though. This is an area of special interest for me. I love to know, and to share."
