Caleb tilted his head at the droop that Caduceus' ears did, trying to figure out if it was worry or something else. He'd seen smaller shifts like that before, but this one seemed to carry a bit more weight and he resisted the urge to reach out and bury his fingers in Caduceus' hair just to reassure him. It might help, and it was wonderful if it did, but he didn't want to distract from the answer or the path getting there. Instead, he scratched his nails softly across Caduceus' chest, drawing little swoops and lines across the pale fur.
A tiny smirk quirked the corners of his lips when Caduceus mentioned Melora. The abrupt halt and redirect was the thing that got him, though, because he knew that Caduceus was trying not to force his faith on him. But if that was what he believed, that was fine with Caleb. He didn't have any strong feelings one way or another. It made his lover - his mate - happy and that mattered more than just about anything. He might never have the same kind of faith or faith in the same direction, but they'd talked about it often enough even before today that he was secure in the knowledge that would be okay. The thing was, though, he liked that Caduceus believed so fully in something. It was inspiring. There was comfort in that, too. If there was something bigger than them looking out for Caduceus, and he was looking out for Caleb, that was more than enough for him.
"Even if you were," Caleb shrugged, unable to keep the somewhat dopey smile from crossing his face, "that would be alright. I wouldn't mind if it was just a once in a while sort of thing, when the season is right. But I have to say that I do like the thought that it might be a...an all the time sort of thing. Though I am a little concerned that Melora thinks it's going to have the intended result, I'm not complaining." He didn't mean to tease, and he knew it came off that way, so he leaned forward and pressed a soft, sweet kiss to Caduceus' nose, then finally brought his hands up to run through his hair and see if he couldn't get those ears to perk up a bit.
"I understand, though," he continued. "Your body is just confirming what the two of us already figured out. That we're supposed to be here, with each other, like this. It was a wonderful surprise. Though, I-" he hummed, pulling up a little bit just to test and finally sliding off of Caduceus with a faint grunt and a little twinge of pain. "Oh," he screwed up his face. "Should have waited a minute longer. It is a bit uncomfortable after a minute, isn't it? Once the rush washes away." That delirious rush that Caleb had slipped into. He didn't know what that was either, but he also wanted more of it.
