Caduceus had picked up one or two words of Caleb's mother tongue in the time they'd known each other, though getting to spend even more time alone together, getting to have actual conversations, it was easier to work out the meaning of a lot of things Caleb said, and with time Caduceus would probably be able to exchange something like a sentence with his partner. But now wasn't the time, though. It was enough to know that they were good, that Caleb was pleased.
His fingers resumed their gentle petting through Caleb's hair, his attention unwavering as they spoke, and the adoration was clear in Caduceus' eyes, the feeling of love welling up inside him stronger than ever.
"There is every possibility. I believe She guides paths to cross, not destiny necessarily, but certainly a guidance. She brought you all to me when you needed help, and in doing that She brought me to Fjord to help him find a better way. I have no reason to doubt the same thing could be true for us, too. Or one of the gods saw that you needed nurturing, saw that you needed taking care of, that you have so much potential but you need an anchor, someone to support you, and they knew I would do that, they steered your path gently towards the others, then towards me," Caduceus said softly. "Either way, we have found where we belong. And I can help you if you want to reach a god, if you want to connect with one of them." Of course he didn't mind if that god didn't happen to be the Wildmother.
Briefly, Caduceus turned his attention to the pie tray, pleased to see that Caleb had eaten a good part of a slice. He put down the fork and, as reluctant as he was to break contact with Caleb, he moved the pie trays and their used plates and bowls to the floor where they would be safer than precariously balanced on the bedside table. As soon as he could he returned his touch to Caleb's face and hair, fingers sliding through it in a gentle rhythm.
"You did a great job eating your dinner, Bren. And I'm so glad you enjoyed it. We'll save the rest for later. If you get hungry you can tell me, yes?" Caduceus smiled again, pressing a kiss to Caleb's nose before he settled back against the pillows, drawing the other man down with him. "You've been so good, little one. You can relax now," he said, voice quiet and low as he guided Caleb's head to rest against his chest.
Caduceus was happy to stay like this if it helped Caleb rest, whatever would help him unwind, and he was working out a few things that seemed to be contributing well to that. It was nice to be able to take care of him, Caleb worked so hard, he was so smart and used his brain a lot, Caduceus was glad to be able to take some of the burden from him in whatever way he could. And more than happy to heap very genuine praise on him.
