Caduceus looked perfectly at home in a soft robe, as much as he ever did in the lichen-covered armor. And it was especially cozy to be able to settle in next to him while he was so casual. Comfort was a concept that Caleb was slowly getting used to, but everything about this little space he shared with Caduceus seemed to glow with it. From the stacks of books to the plants steadily growing near the window. It was as close to perfect as they could get without being in the carefully, deliberately, exhaustingly detailed Tower. And this didn't put a strain on Caleb's magic. It also didn't kick them back into their bed at Midnight. It was good to have their mark on the space, for all sorts of reasons.
He ate slowly, taking his time to enjoy what had been made for him, trying to pick out the different flavors. It was delicious, of course. He'd never known Caduceus to make anything that wasn't wonderful. And he usually lived off the boba balls he'd found when they were on the road. Anything with flavor was better than that. "Translating," he said, cradling the bowl in both hands while he spoke. "There are some books I'd like to show you. Once I get them translated, they're added to the library in the Tower, too, so we can go through them whenever you'd like. But most of the stories are in Zemnian and I figured putting them in Common would be easier." It was a long process, though. It was important to get the feeling of the story right and not just the words.
"I don't have to guess what you've been working on today," he smiled. "This is wonderful, by the way. I wouldn't change a thing." Mostly because Caleb wasn't overly picky when it came to food. Zemni Fields wasn't as rich with spices as, say, the Menagerie Coast. They had their herbs, but it wasn't nearly as much variety or as much heat. Not that anything here seemed like it would benefit from heat. A pinch of garlic, maybe a little bit of rosemary, and Caleb was happy. Anything more overwhelmed all the natural flavors. "I thought I might come help you in the graveyard tomorrow if you wanted. I'd like to see what you do. It occurred to me this afternoon that I'd never really done that. But I'd love to watch."
