She had indeed telegraphed herself. It was a common weakness of Diana’s, and it had its reasons. After all, why should she work to block a punch or hide her intentions? What punch would hurt? And today, Diana realized what an actual liability that was, because she had been in no way ready for an opponent at her level. And that big brain thing was really biting her in the butt, because she didn’t miss a thing.
Which was fine in the normal context of a fight, but as she’d twisted to take out his legs, there was no way to miss that smile, bright as the sun. He hopped, dodging her hit, and Diana twisted, bringing her hands together to slam into the back of his knee, but she had still been looking at his face when she’d done it. Thor had grabbed one of her arms and pinned her, and she looked stunned for just a moment. Was... was she on the ground? She’d been put there?
And you know, Diana had been born a Princess. Set to one day inherit the throne of the Amazons, whom she had outclassed since birth. So Thor poked her in her pride a little bit with his question, no real damage done, but a challenge that Diana could not leave unanswered. It was not in her nature to stand down, after all. “I can handle anything you have,” she said with a bright laugh, and she shifted, driving her opposite hand into his shoulder and forcing him to rebalance, freeing the arm he’d snatched.
Now they were both on the ground, and Thor had been right: Diana’s people were Greek in culture, and not only could Diana wrestle and grapple, she had been trained very well in hand to hand combat. Or foot to chest, as the case was now, at least until she’d kicked him onto his back. She followed, never one to give up the advantage, and straddled him, sort of. If you could call pinning him with a knee straddling him, since the other knee was technically on his other side.
“Can you, though, is the question.” And Diana did something she’d never done in nearly a thousand years of living. She reached out and took a lock of his hair in her fingers, and tugged, very gently. Not hard enough to hurt, but certainly hard enough to annoy. Not to mention pointing out she had a hand free to engage in childish hair pulling while she had him pinned.
