Diana looked pained as Peter told her the world was a mess, and she nodded enthusiastically. “It very much is,” she said with a sigh. “The Amazons… it is a long story.” She paused again, wondering how she could potentially make this a shorter conversation. Not that she didn’t want the conversation to continue, but her mother had told her this story in the form of a bedtime tale, and it had gone on.
“Zeus created Mankind in his image, and Mankind was good,” she began, softly, as her soft brown eyes followed the little ball back and forth across the tabletop. “But his son, the God of War, felt jealous of them. And so he poisoned Mankind’s hearts.” Diana’s mouth thinned for a moment, as she considered the rest of it. “The Gods created the Amazons to bring peace to Mankind, and for a time, there was. But it did not last. It never does.”
Diana sighed, leaving out her mother freeing the Amazons from enslavement and hiding them on Themyscira. Her mother had, in Diana’s opinion, forsaken their vow in her fear, and Diana had left Themyscira because of it. Well, and to help Mankind. Whether she had been successful or not seemed a matter of judgement, but she had never stopped trying.
Her eyes rose from the tabletop sharply as she noted that Peter felt she’d get her great wisdom from Tony. Which, not to be rude, Tony seemed like a perfectly fine person, but he hadn’t said anything particularly wise. Yet, anyway. Of course, they’d only spoken once. “How do you know I won’t get my great wisdom from you?” She asked, and her tone was teasing, but she did mean it. There was no reason Peter couldn’t teach her great wisdom, if she needed it.
