Steve bit down on his lower lip. He wouldn't sit down, but he would join Tony on the other side of the bar. He came up beside Tony, leaning his elbows on the counter. "I.. returned the Stones. And then I... stayed in the past. With Peggy. Lived out an entire lifetime with her." Steve nervously fiddled with his glass. He could only imagine what Tony thought of that dumb, reckless decision. "I.. haven't lived through it yet. I was about to, when I appeared here at the hotel. But Bucky.. he's seen me as an old man. You know, an actual old man. Which means.. I go through with it."
The blonde finally lifted his eyes away from his whiskey, looking at Tony. "I know. It was dumb. And nothing can be done about it. You'd think someone my age would stop making mistakes like that. I don't know why I believed there wouldn't be consequences. But there were. And the guilt is eating me alive."
