Even in the way she spoke Matt could tell there was a lot that had passed between them in the time that he'd missed out - the parts that she hadn't wanted him to ask questions about. But being faced with her now like this, Matt felt like those questions would be impossible to hold back. But just knowing she was there felt like enough for now.
"I could say the same about you," Alive, no matter what had happened, no matter what they'd been through had to be better than the deep aching loss of where she'd once been. Their relationship had always been complicated, but she was a part of him no matter where they were or what they were doing, and losing her had been losing a part of himself.
It felt like she was working at trying to bring back the way they used to be, like she was making an effort and Matt wondered what would have been there if she wasn't. But he moved further into the room, sitting across from her on the other bed, still not trusting himself enough to get close to her no matter how intense the urge might have been. "Look at you with a roommate, I didn't think I'd ever see that come to pass." He could only imagine what it was like when the two of them were alone together in here, stuck together the way people were in this place. He supposed he was lucky that his roommate was pretty quiet.
