"Wow," Matt was easily stunned by the idea of so much happening in space, when all of that seemed so far off in his own time. "Terraforming on Mars." He was a little disappointed to hear about gunships, but he supposed it made sense, why would people give up their love of warm making just because they were in space? And maybe there were other threats out there, he didn't know anything about that world. But in all the imaginings he'd done as a kid space was free of all that sort of thing - the reality of it of course seemed to be far more complicated than the idealized version his child's mind had come up with once upon a time. "They talk about getting people on Mars, but it's all just kind of speculation at this point," he explained, "You know like one day our grandchildren or something might live up there." Which still felt a little too soon in Matt's estimation, but what did he know about this sort of thing?
Matt listened as Amos told him more about planets with stations in their orbit, and other moons where people now lived in his time - all of it was like something out of a movie. Like the kind of fantasy he'd have had years ago. "Just a mechanic on a space ship." Matt countered, which automatically made it far cooler than anything he'd ever done. Anyone who worked in space was far cooler than him by all accounts and Matt was entirely okay with that.
He grinned when Amos told him that Lawyers were still important, "Nice to know I ended up in a field with a little longevity to it." He said with a soft huff of amusement. He nodded when Amos told him he'd never needed a lawyer either - it was generally a good thing not to need those kinds of services, at least the kind of law Matt practiced, or had practiced. These days things were a little up in the air.
"I'd hope though, if space is ever in the cards for me I could go as something other than a lawyer," He said with a low chuckle, "When I was a kid, I mean I wanted to be a boxer like my dad, but I thought about going to space sometimes, some sort of rocket man out there exploring the stars."
