Geralt was used to magic. Or, he thought he was. Portals were nothing new to the witcher. He didn't like them all that much since they still made his stomach feel like it was holding a bag of wet rocks. No matter the distance, Geralt would always prefer to walk or ride to his destination. Portals could be tricky as well and since he had no control over them personally, the chances of getting stuck on the other side was high. The portals in the hotel had proven stable, however. It still had taken some convincing on Ciri's part to get him to go through them but the little Witcher protege had started a habit lately of getting him to agree to things he normally wouldn't have thought of doing. Geralt did get in a good hour-long lecture about safety and what would happen if they were to get separated through the portals at least. A lecture he was sure went straight through Ciri's ear and out the other side. But her excitement was contagious and Geralt couldn't say that he wasn't at least a little tiny bit curious about what was beyond the portals. He'd heard from others what they'd seen. He wasn't as excited about the pirates or dinosaurs but the idea of a world being made entirely out of sugar was intriguing. And he did have a plan that needed executing. Yennefer's birthday was coming, according to Ciri. Geralt had already decided what he would give Ciri for her own birthday. What to get the sorceress ...well, the witcher hoped he would find something to inspire in these other worlds. And he would need to find a gift for Jaskier as well. It wasn't his birthday (since this was the one thing the bard was silent on) but the witcher didn't think he needed a reason to give something to his boyfriend. Maybe he could find a really fancy hat made out of sugar for him to go with that goatee he kept promising Ciri that he'd draw on Jaskier. Ciri had, naturally, jumped at the chance to help him find these gifts. She had tried to drag him all the way to the portals, eager to try this new adventure with him. He tried his best not to be overbearing with her. There was only a two-minute lecture about being safe that he gave before they stepped through the first portal. When they landed, it was on a dock. In many ways, it reminded him of Novigrad. But the air was different and there wasn't a dwarf or elf in sight. Just a lot of drunk and sunburnt pirates. He turned, immediately checking to see if Ciri was behind him. Geralt let out a soft noise of relief when he saw her exit the portal behind him. "Think Jaskier would be pleased with a pirate hat?" |
