"And there we have it," Derek said with amusement, "the two pillars of the Harvelle way of life," he said with a teasing smile. He could well see Jo trading her ship-stealing services for particularly ornate knives and muskets, but she was right, it was pirate-dependant on every level. "You're starting to make me think we should get back out there and steal another," he said with amusement. "Make hay while the sun shines and all that," he said taking a swig from his mug.
He smiled at her words and gave a small sigh. "Honestly, I never anticipated meeting anyone that just fit, you know?" Derek confided. "I dated back home a little, but only a few stuck and it felt nothing like how it feels with Kitty. I don't want to waste time," he said softly. As for a date, they'd not got that far. "Perhaps we'll wait until the right magical land comes along," he told Jo with a smile, "but we're together and that's what matters right now."
Derek had caught Jo's expression and tone, though he doubted she'd meant to let on. "There's time for you too," Derek said, his hand reaching across the table and giving her hand a squeeze. "You never know who or what's around the next corner," he told her. "How are things with you and Dean these days?" he asked, knowing that her feelings had been stomped on hard there.
