This particular anger wasn't something Natasha felt often, or even showed when she did, but there were times that it edged everything she did and caused her to be particularly ruthless, such as when someone she cared about was threatened. As John started to reply, she reined in her anger while studying him - but didn't fully relax until he took her hand.
"Oh, I intend to talk to them one we're sure these portals don't lead anywhere too dangerous," she replied, and gave a quiet sigh after a moment, slowly voicing some other thoughts she'd had recently, that had started to spark back when they talked about people coming or going before this.
"I think that....while the experiments are important, they're misdirected. For the moment. I'm not the only person who has nothing to go back to. There are also some who have very rough lives back in their worlds that they may not want to ever return to. I think that there should be more focus on anchoring those of us who want to stay to this place - or rather, the hotel," she added after a brief glance around. No one would actually want to live in the middle of all this sugar for long. Turning her eyes back to John, she continued. "If there was some way to keep some of us here if something does go wrong...I think that would be a better place to start."
Natasha was very aware of the fact that while John had been clear about wanting her to stick around, they hadn't talked about whether or not he wanted to go back to his own world someday - if he had people there he wanted to return to. It was something they'd need to discuss at some point, but she wasn't ready for that just yet. Instead, she nodded at his words about explaining it to Tony and Stephen. "I will - I just hope they listen."
After making a conscious effort to relax her shoulders, she started to drift with him along the bank towards the closest gondola, and shot him an arch look. "I can make sandwiches. And salads. Things that don't involve cooking, you know." And while she smiled at the whisper, it was her turn to lift his hand and brush her lips across his knuckles before reaching out to catch hold of one of the vessels to climb aboard. "Maybe later."
