There was a calm, white-hot heat to her anger that John hadn't seen before and as Natasha explained her feelings he started to see the experimentation from her perspective. Whether the experiment had worked or not, he suspected Nat would feel the same - that they were probing things they knew nothing about and experimenting with forces they couldn't control. It made sense...and yet there was that niggle at the back of his brain that liked to play with the magic around him and bend it to his will.
"I think we're all trying to find a way for those who want to get home to do so," John said carefully, "in our own ways. I don't know what Stark's thingy does and I don't know how it would impact your world," and perhaps we should all think more carefully before performing big magic again. "Talk to them, Nat," he said taking her hand and giving it a tender kiss. "Tell them your worries and your fears because they're men of experimentation and magic. We see what might be possible and don't think about the ways it can go wrong. Sometimes we need to hear it," John said, knowing he shared that arrogance and need.
"You're angry, I know that, but I think you're also scared and that scares you more than anything," because she kept so much under wraps, most people didn't see that side of Natasha. "Explain it to them, in small words if necessary, that this can't happen again." She'd told him early doors about her fears and John had been careful in his workings. Prodding and poking at the hotel's magic, without attempting to break through it and he'd needed to hear her words. So that he understood that others here had different priorities, though hers aligned with his now and he'd never risk losing her.
John laced his fingers through hers and nodded towards the gondolas, "unless you'd like to dunk me another strawberry first? It's possibly the only food you'll ever prepare me that's edible," he said gently teasing. "I'll take that as a no to the skinny dipping," he leant in and whispered, "but think how much fun we'd have getting clean."
