The hotel had given him several challenges. He'd met all of them with the same grit and grace he gave to every aspect of his life. Witchers were taught to be adaptable, to be able to see any situation and change with it. Unfortunately, no one had taught him how to handle a child. Ciri was of no blood relation to him but she was close to a daughter as he would ever be allowed. Whether she had come to him through destiny or chance, it didn't matter. He would rise to the responsibility gladly. Ciri was spunky and charming. He had liked her immediately, although he could see how her stubborn nature would aggravate him in the future. And she was strong. Not just in her body but in her mind as well. He had sensed that much of her life had been hard which made it very sweet to see her so ...charmingly positive. Geralt wanted nothing more to protect her from every dark shadow, every harsh word, every evil of the world. So naturally, when something man-shaped came onto her path, he bristled. It had started innocently enough. Ciri had only just made a friend and she'd been inclined to help them in their time of need. He'd said nothing, though he'd warned to be cautious. But it was her life and it wasn't his place to pick who she was able to talk to or not talk to. But then she requested to take Roach out on a walk with this so-called friend. Perhaps, also, innocently. But Geralt didn't want to wait until things became, eh, too entangled. Though it wasn't his intention to chase off the boy, Geralt would plan to be nearby on this little walk of their's just in case. He'd waited until Ciri had come to their room to pick up Roach, who was always happy when Ciri came around, and then counted a fair amount of time before pulling Jaskier out with him. Half an hour, at the most. Their trail was to easy to follow with his witcher sense but he at least tried to make it look like he wasn't tracking his adopted daughter. He even took them to the bar for a quick drink before whisking Jaskier outside, hand in hand. A good witcher could multi-task. |
