WHO: Finn, Rey and Ben
WHEN: 3/20 [Backdated to Finn's arrival.]
WHERE: The lobby.
STATUS: Complete
WARNINGS: Low, injuries
A saber hole through the shoulder had been pain pushed through by adrenaline and desire to protect. The burns to his body and ache of the fights before would have been nothing, but the last slash drug down Finn's spine had been the crippling strike that took him into the cold of the snow and darkness of bare consciousness. Finn felt it, the blackness of the body shutting down, and then, instead of cold soft ground, the cool hardness of a tiled floor. The smells around him suddenly changed, all but the burning of his skin and muscles. His collapse was a hard thump to the ground beside the check-in counter. ---- She'd felt it. The familiar ripple of a force signature returning. It was weaker than when it had left, but she could pin Finn's life force anywhere. It was one she'd become intimately familiar with in the months they'd shared here before he'd been sent home. There wasn't any hesitation in stopping what she had been doing. She'd been in the library looking for new movies to watch on the laptop in her room. The DVD was promptly shoved back onto the shelf as she excitedly made her way toward the lobby and her friend. She was halfway there, before she realized there was going to be a lot of confusion. When he'd left he had not been very happy with her and Poe's relations with Armitage, and got increasingly more upset with the appearance of Kylo, and even more so when Phasma had arrived. She was already trying to figure out how to explain that Poe and Armitage were married now and that she was with...well, all of them. Was that a thing you led with? Maybe give him a moment to adjust and settle in. That was before she saw him...and more importantly that all too familiar gash on his back. They'd all arrived around the same time before, but now unless someone else had hurt him in a similar way. "Finn!" she didn't know when she'd gotten there, but she was already gingerly touching the wound. Had to heal. Had to fix it. Had to clean him up, but she was frantic. Ben.. There was an urgency in her call; distress and need, as she placed her hand on him. She had to calm down. She needed to control her emotions. She needed to breathe. How had Ben done it? ---- He had been in the pool when he’d heard her call to him. Immediately, he’d launched himself out of the water and onto the tiles. It had taken him all of a minute to dry himself off enough to change into his dry clothes. His shirt ended up on backwards and his boots were in his hand while he ran barefoot down the hall but at least he was on his way. It had been awhile since Rey had reached out to him with such urgency in her voice. Ben couldn’t stop himself from imagining at least a dozen different reasons for it. Rey? What had happened? He could sense her concern and worry. Someone was hurt. Armitage? Poe? He collided into the corner of the entrance to the lobby but was able to use the force to bounce him forward as he sped up. Rey came into view first, hunched over someone and Ben felt fear clutch his heart like a vice. He skid to a stop behind her and fell to his knees at her side. Finn? His hand instantly went out to join Rey’s hand on the ex-Stormtrooper’s back. There would be time for yelling and questions later. That lightsaber wound looked as fresh as the day it had happened. --- Finn groaned; the feel of Rey’s hand and Force stirring him slightly as she waited. Then, another, the duel sensation itched at the nerves. --- Her breathing wasn't as slow and deep as she would have liked, but it was steady, she'd managed that. Hearing Ben's voice in her mind, knowing he was coming had helped her try to slow it down, closing her eyes to concentrate. Ben had put his life force into her. She remembered how it felt and tried to do the same, but she also remembered what it had done to him. She didn't care. Her forced herself to breath slower, reach out with the force to feel the extent of the wound. Couldn't panic. Needed to push those emotions down and concentrate. That became easier when she felt Ben beside her. When she felt his hand over hers and his energy mix with hers. The breathing came easier and the guidance of his own flow helped her direct and add her strength, knitting the sinew and flesh together. --- Ben wasn’t sure how long it had been exactly for Finn but he recognized the gash across the other man’s back. Blood was seeping through his clothes. It was wide and wet under his hand. He tried to spread his fingers out as far as he could with Rey’s. Healing Finn would take a lot of of her force energy but with both of them sharing the weight, it wouldn’t drain her as much as it had with him. The memory of that moment in the woods came like a flash of light. He didn’t let it distract him or try to push it away. The regrets of his past would always surface. Ben knew he had many and there would constantly be people or objects that would remind him of that old life. He had to learn to not let his emotions get control of him. The lightsaber wound was deep. He kept his eyes open, glaring at the seared and torn flesh until slowly he could see the start of new skin and muscle begin to form. --- The push of the Force through his system sent electricity through his nerves, cells stitching themselves back together. Internal to external. Finn's eyes fluttered, fingers twitching and lungs expanding. The world beyond was blurry. The more they healed the more tension hit his muscles with renewed energy. Finn groaned again, stirring slightly. --- Rey had found herself wishing this place had a Bacta tank to submerge Finn into, even though the healing was working. She was just used to science as opposed to the Force when it came to healing. But she'd experienced first hand, just how this worked and she believed in it, even more so with Ben's help. When she felt his breathing deepen, she placed another hand on his back as if to steady him. "It's okay, Finn," she said softly. "It's Rey. I'm here." She wanted to keep him calm, not sure if she could do anything about the pain he was feeling. She was splitting her concentration, but she didn't want him to make any sudden movements and undo the work they were attempting to do. --- It might have been better for Finn to heal in a Bacta tank. Forcing the body to heal at such a rapid rate could sometimes be damaging, if not more exhausting. But Ben was driven by guilt more than reason. And this was the best under these terrible circumstances. Finn had been here before. But this wasn’t the same man. Ben knew it was foolish to assume so quickly but this had to be Finn from an earlier point in their timeline. He wondered if the same would happen to any of them- -the wound began to close up. Little by little, flesh stitched together to make something new. Rey was fast to assure her friend. Once Ben saw the last bit of skin come together, he withdrew his hand and scooted away. The sight of him could be upsetting but hopefully at this level, he would look less intimidating? --- Finn curled into himself, pain throbbing through his newly healed system as it re-intregated the nerve endings. Rey's voice was soothing to his disjointed mind. "Rey…" He whispered. His hand slowly reaching up in an attempt to take her hand. And… he could feel another familiar force. The energy tickled his senses as they started to come back to consciousness. --- When the last of it was done, she did turn as Ben pulled away. Not fully, but there was a flood of warmth and gratitude that flowed through their bond. She could feel the guilt, but that was something they'd have to address later, even as she wanted to comfort him too. If Finn had stayed unconscious, it would have been easier to handle while transporting him to the med bay in the basement? Or would it have been better to just take him to his room. She would have taken him to hers, but if Poe and Armitage were in it... Everything was just so complicated now. "Yeah, I'm right here," she said, taking the hand reaching for her stained one. She put her other hand over that one, holding him tightly. "Stay still. You need to rest." --- He sensed her concern but he was glad when he saw her focus on Finn instead. His guilt was low priority right now. Though he did wonder how badly Finn was going to react to seeing him. Once he was alright to open his eyes. Ben wanted to suggest that they try to move Finn out of the lobby once he was able but he wasn’t sure if it was alright for him to talk right now. The sound of his voice would likely startle Finn. He was trying to help, not cause an issue. Speaking of, he scooted away a little more, to give them both space and to keep an eye on the area around them. He was always curious how people were just dropped into the hotel. Some came at the same time, others far apart and some with different memories. Would an old friend appear or an old enemy? In Ben’s experience, it was always best to assume the worst so he stayed on watch so Rey could keep all her focus on Finn. But he sent a quick message to Rey - we’re going to need to get him to his room. --- A soft sigh escaped at her voice and the tension in his muscles settled further at her touch. She was alive, that was all that mattered. “Did we win?” He asked weakly. Dark eyes began to purposefully blink to try to clear the clouds. The healing went a long way to repair the wounds but the body still settled from the flooding of pain chemicals and adrenaline from the fight. Focusing on Rey, the shadow of another played at the corner of his gaze. Turning to look, his brows furrowed. “Where are we?” --- Finn looking relieved should have soothed her. He was talking to her like everything was fine, although a bit strained. That meant it worked. They'd healed him, which she knew. She'd experienced it first hand and she and Armitage were products of that technique. It took everything in her not to look back at Ben. Instead, she focused on smiling down on the previously injured man. "We did," she said surely. Connix had talked about celebrating the end of the war. Seeing him turn his head, she reached out to cup his cheek and turn his attention back to her. "We're at a hotel, but you should worry about that later." --- Ben knew the moment Finn saw him, he would recognize him immediately. Even without his mask, his face had been known well within the First Order. But Finn had barely opened his eyes and he was being drawn in by Rey’s calming voice. He tried to stay silent, letting Rey answer Finn’s questions. Win? Is his timeline, technically, they had. At a high cost. But Ben didn’t have the right to say anything. He just waited to see what Finn would do first. When Rey began to cradle Finn in her arms, Ben realized nearly too late that the other man had started to recognize him. He saw fear rise, both in himself and Finn, and in a panic, he whipped his hand out and slid it across Finn’s face, forcing him unconscious. --- "Hotel?" Finn allowed Rey to direct his gaze, but that thing in the pit of his stomach crawled toward the other sense. It recognized it and saw it recognized him back. He tried to look once more only for a shadow to move over his already exhausted mind and push him back down into the void. --- While she'd felt the panic rise in Ben, she felt she had it under control. What she hadn't expected was the man to put Finn to sleep. Feeling her friend's body suddenly slump in her arms, it was her turn to panic. "What did you do?" slipped past her lips before she saw the soft rise and fall of his chest. She delicately cradled him. "We should probably get him down to the medical room." Part of it was hoping they'd get some privacy there, because she really did not want to have to deal with whoever his roommate was. --- “We do need to move him out of here,” Ben lifted himself up and looked around them. There were a few people that had stopped to look but nobody looked interested enough to wait around and see what was happening. Good. He always hated busybodies. “I just put him to sleep. He was going to ask too many questions.” But he did have enough shame to look guilty as he said that, at least. Because though it had felt like the most logical choice, he felt bad that he’d had to do it. He stepped over to Finn’s other side and held out his arms to help her get Finn to his feet. “At least the medical room isn’t that far.” --- Rey would have lifted him with the force, but she had already used a lot of her energy. With Ben's help she got Finn up. "I know, I just." She had freaked out considering the condition he'd come in. "Thank you." Once they managed to get him up, she reached over and placed her palm on Ben and looked up at him over Finn's head. Then she placed it back on Finn to support him. "Ready when you are." |
