Audrey had a thing in her brain, a certain combination of misfiring neurons, and while it was normally pretty shit it also gave her one pretty neat mundane superpower. She was really good at reading people's microexpressions. She watched the tension leave Eddie's body and she watched his eyes move over her thighs and across her ribcage with a certain familiar curiosity. Honestly, she had always just assumed he only liked boys, but considering her relationship with gender was tenuous as best, she didn't think too much one way or another about his gaze lingering a little bit too long. She appreciated the boost of confidence it gave her as she slipped into the water and lightly bobbed her way over to the side.
"Between the two of us," she countered, finding one of the jets on the side of the pool and turning to angle it right between her shoulder blades, "the chances of me being the idiot who eventually puts that theory to the test through absolutely no fault but my own… is not insignificant." What with the lack of impulse control, goblin brain, and tendency to do things just because they were kind of funny. And while she still had no idea why she had opened up their line of banter on such a bleak topic (goblin brain, probably), it wasn't without merit. Because as soon as the knot between her shoulder and neck had worked itself out, she braced herself on the edge of the pool and shoved herself under the water.
A line of bubbles rose up, then stopped, but Audrey was still strumming her fingers on the tile. At least a full minute and a half passed before she surfaced again with a gasp and slumped against the side. "Endorphins," she said, as if that were supposed to be an explanation. "Adrenaline. Now we just need Miss Serotonin to join the party and everything will be cake."
