It was actually pretty cute the way he quickly moved to cover himself up again, even if he was covering himself in completely clear water. But she appreciated what she saw as an attempt to make her feel more comfortable. She didn't want to start psychoanalyzing or anything but the few conversations she'd had with Eddie made her think that he usually did things for other people's comfort and not always his own, which was something she deeply related to. Not that you'd know it by looking at her, though.
But the fact of the matter was, for some strange reason, she actually already felt pretty comfortable around him. It could have been the fact that they'd shared a couple friends in common or that he never seemed to be particularly shocked by anything she said (he was lifelong friends with Richie so she could imagine that would have dulled some of his shock receptors), but he just seemed like a chill person who she could be chill with. Which was good, under even normal circumstances, but better now considering she hadn't planned for other people to be here.
She'd clocked the scar on his chest pretty quick and figured that as long as she didn't ask about his scars he wouldn't ask about hers. And she generally tried to make them a non-issue. But they were there, some hidden behind the massive tattoo on her thigh - red roses with thick dewy spiderwebs between them and one single tiny black widow just above her knee. There were more of those too. A bit of script across her ribs. A switchblade across the top of her foot. And a cluster of molecules on her shoulder blade that wasn't immediately visible just yet. Between the tattoos and the strappy black swimsuit she felt like she made an odd little antithesis to what she perceived as a fairly buttoned-up individual like him.
"Sure you did," she smirked, and made her way around the edge of the pool towards the steps. "I don't mind if you don't, though. I was just going to clear my head and do a few laps. But I'm cool with the company. As long as you don't get overly concerned if I sink to the bottom of the pool for a few seconds just to tempt God." It was mostly a joke. But black humor was how she survived so might as well toss it out there.
