He'd been risking his life against deadly things for years -- sometimes Levi didn't even feel worry about it when he was out there, zooming past trees and blades in his hands. So he really didn't know why hand holding was so damn exciting. It just was.
"I know," he said, gaze steady on their twined fingers. Curious. And he did know, obviously. The concept of being himself was a strange one because he didn't think he wasn't himself most of the time, not the way Erwin wasn't. But Levi had been forged by his surroundings until that was all there was. It was possible he had the opportunity to be someone new, if he tried. They'd find out.
At Erwin's question, Levi tipped his head back up to arch a brow at him. Not judging the question so much as the way he broached intent, maybe.
Petra might have been someone, once. Levi had considered it, the way she'd looked at him, the way she'd smiled had felt important and good. But she'd died before anything had happened. Which was probably why he'd held off in the first place. "I will have if you'd get your tall ass down here, already," he said, telling Erwin everything he really needed to know. No, he'd never been close to anyone in that way, but he wasn't going to worry over the details.
