J'mon wrapped his hand around Eddie's and then gently closed their other hand on top of it. It was, at times, difficult for them to keep from becoming too comfortable with people too quickly. But Eddie felt things so very deeply that it seemed a shame to deny either of them the connection.
"In my experience, few know quite the depths they are getting into when they seek to correct an evil, or an injustice. But we do it because it is the right thing to do and because we are compelled to. I have seen so many very good people fall to these battles. You are hardly alone in this. And furthermore, you are with the grandest company I have ever known." Which was also, perhaps, not comforting. But J'mon also didn't think any less of Eddie because he had fallen in the attempt to destroy this evil. He was here now and that was the important thing. What use was sugar-coating things, anyway? Eddie knew what had happened. Ignoring it wasn't going to change it.
They squeezed his hand and leaned in, gently stroking their thumb across his palm. "You fought," they continued. "Be proud of that. I would be. And I have been in some disastrous battles."
