There was an unspoken apology in his voice and an undoubtable wave of panic hovering around the corner, but Steve would delay it to the best of his abilities. Because currently, Tony's emotions outweighed his own. Not to mention, Steve was the one who had started this, so ultimately, he felt responsible for cleaning up the mess. ..so to speak. He couldn't really let Tony leave empty-handed. So: pancakes first, meltdown later.
He'd come over and give Tony's shoulders a squeeze, silently asking him to stay put. An action he almost immediately regretted because he really, really wanted to launch right back into what they'd been doing.
But he wouldn't. He'd pull himself back together and scurry around, making sure that Tony had something to bring for Pepper. Though, as soon as he handed that plate over, he'd realize he had forgotten to put strawberries on top of the pancakes like he'd planned. Then again, not much was going as planned that morning.. Either way, he wouldn't say anything, far too mortified to formulate words.
