That was weird, right? Was Steve the only one who had noticed that? It was like he'd been hooked and some invisible reel was drawing him back to Tony. And the more Steve resisted, the tighter that string seemed to pull. Steve frowned. He was imagining this. He was absolutely, positively imagining this. He hadn't had coffee yet. It was definitely the lack of coffee.
Once Steve had successfully yanked his attention back to the pancakes, he realized that Tony had given him a yes. Which Steve couldn't help but smile over. He had moved down a counter and was pulling out the things he needed, rolling up his sleeves before the space became too messy. "You told me once that Pepper is allergic to strawberries-" His tone had been so unwaveringly calm before he glanced back in Tony's direction, only to lose his voice the second their eyes reconnected. "Is, ah, is this Pepper -"
He had looked into Tony's eyes before. Several, several times. In close proximity, in high-adrenaline moments. And in all fairness, Tony did indeed have captivatingly expressive eyes. But right now, they seemed to slap the words right out of him, and all Steve wanted was to -
..what was he saying? He awkwardly swallowed.
"..is this Pepper allergic to strawberries?" Tony hadn't even said that the food was for Pepper. Steve had just guessed. And he really hoped he was right. Otherwise, he probably looked like an even bigger idiot right now.
