Madi knew Clarke had been dealing with a lot, especially since she'd lost Lexa. Losing most of their people had been a huge blow for Clarke, but losing Lexa was the ultimate knife to the heart for her mother. Madi could only equate the loss to what it was to lose her birth mother. Though she'd been very young when it happened, Madi still remembered her mother dying in her arms and knowing...knowing she was never going to see her again. It had to be killing Clarke to know that too. Madi had tired to be there for Clarke as much as she could, but she knew there was nothing she could do to truly take that pain away.
Madi's grip on her mother's hand tightened, eyes looking up as Clarke's voice reached her ears, and she spotted the cave. It was just big enough for the two of them, but not the beetle. However, Madi would only be breathing a sigh of relief once they were safely inside.
"Let's go." Madi tried to run faster, but her legs were shorter than Clarke's and it was harder for the young girl to keep up. The beetle was right behind them and Madi found her stumbling with every step it took. She couldn't slow Clarke down.
Before Madi could tell Clarke to release her hand so she could be safe, Clarke had swept Madi up in her arms, conquering the distance to the cave, and sliding through the entrance. Madi clung to the blond as they fell inside, safe and unharmed aside from some bruises from the landing. Madi realized it was the first time they had been in something that reminded them of home.
The beetle slammed into the cave and Madi closed her eyes as a few bits of dust and rock fell from the ceiling. Madi held her breath, waiting for it to happen again, but miraculously, it didn't happen. Madi sighed.
