He was fishing. Again. Or at least trying to. The stream that he'd been able to find them wasn't all that deep enough to really have the sort of fish he was hoping for. But it wasn't really fish he was trying to catch. It was his heartbeat.
Since the first moment they were dropped into this bug-filled hell, Geralt had been spending every damned second making sure Jaskier was safe. That he wasn't being stabbed, poked, cut, gored or bit by everything that came their way. Geralt had fought a giant bug or two in his time but these were definitely bigger and nasiter than he was used to.
And he didn't have his swords. But that was only a minor inconvenience to him. He had no problem using his hands when he had to. Monster killing was what he did. It was literally his job and he was pretty fucking good at it. Now, a sword would have been nice and he was on the lookout for anything big and pointy he could use in place of one but so far, there hadn't been much to find. If there had been humans here, or even elves, it had been a very long time ago. It was only nature now. And bugs.
Big ones that tried to carry his boyfriend off.
He'd already been turning around when the giant flying insect first tried to grab and fly off with the bard. It had been fast, coming out of nowhere and surprising both of them. But Geralt was quicker. He grabbed the leg of the dragonfly as it tried to fly by him with its prize. With a grunt, he pulled it down just enough for him to bite at the scrawny dark leg. It left a foul taste in his mouth but the dragonfly immediately let go and carried on. Probably looking for the next poor fool to eat.
Thankfully the bug hadn't been able to carry Jaskier more than a foot so Geralt caught him back easily. Setting him firmly on the ground, he checked the arm where the insect had touched him. And though he was still angry, it wasn't at Jaskier. Once Geralt saw that he was fine, he let out a short sigh of relief. "Try not to fly off without me. I like you better on the ground."
