Normally, Stephen might have liked the change in scenery. No, no - he would have, under different circumstances. Being at the hotel 24/7 did tend to get repetitive. Even with his hands full with training an apprentice and doing research in his shiny new sanctum in the basement, Stephen would have enjoyed a stroll through Candyland or taking an afternoon to go shopping at the mall. This was just a pain in the ass to deal with. Ever since they'd been evicted from the hotel, Strange had been trying his best to help others out. Killing gigantic insects may have been easy for someone like the sorcerer supreme, but there were a lot of them. Enough to keep him busy for most of the day. Stephen Strange was not an entomologist. He knew a lot about science, knew a lot about repairing the human body. But he was not up on his bug knowledge. Which had landed him in more than one predicament. Today, for example, he had taken out a few horse-sized crickets that had been terrorizing a more populated area. As it turns out, hungry crickets will eat other crickets, so in the end, it only attracted more crickets to the area. And that had been a hell of a mess to clean up. The sun had just disappeared beyond the horizon when he finally had the problem under control. And as much as Stephen really wanted to keep patrolling the town and helping others out of sticky situations, he was exhausted and needed to recuperate. So he returned to the house that he and Loki had been residing in, maybe a little bit gross, covered in sweat and bug pieces. Now, all of this was pretty terrible. A post-apocalyptic world where aggressive, homicidal bugs ran free was not his idea of a fun vacation. However, if there was one tiny little positive element about the predicament they were in, it was this: he had a house with Loki. And sure, it wasn't as romantic as it could have been. Who knew what happened to the original owners of the house. But it was a really cute house with a really cute living room and staying there with his partner felt very domestic. Far more domestic than sharing a hotel room together. As soon as he got in, Stephen had gone straight for the bathroom. He leaned towards the mirror to start picking big chunks of cricket from his hair, calling out a pleasant, "Babe, I'm home." |
