Phasma's heart had plummeted into her stomach when she saw his message on the network. And every little blip from a new alert had just made it twist all the tighter inside her, like a red-hot dagger. She had been slowly dealing with the elements of her past and speaking candidly about Parnassos, but she'd kept that part of the story shoved deep down inside of her. And yet, Keldo had not lashed out at her. He had not thrown the past back at her in the way she'd expected him to. He'd greeted her with the softness, humor, and love he had always shown before... before the falling star landed on their planet. Once her body had recovered from the shock, she couldn't move fast enough to get to him. The second he indicated that he wanted to see her, she was up off the chair in her bedroom and rushing towards him. It only took a few moments but to her it felt like she was moving through sludge, fighting to get there with every step. She knew that the weight in her limbs and the buzzing of blood in her ears was fear and anxiety, but she wasn't about to pause and think about why. There was too much time between them, too much distance, and everything within her just wanted to get there. Then she saw him and it was as if he had stepped straight out of her very last memory of him. Sand still clung to his clothes and there were still faded smudges of green on his cheeks. For a moment, she couldn't move another step forward. She was afraid that this was all a horrible dream, some trick of the hotel, and the closer she tried to get to him, the further he would move away from her. This place had an uneasy way about it, she couldn't be too cautious. But she could hope, she thought, that he was just as tangible and real as anything else. Still, she hesitated. |
