Ed let Susan look closely at the map, while he stayed back and looked at it as a whole. The Imperial city on its own island - what must its navy be like, he wondered, and how easy would it be to lay siege to it? - and all the various bays and peninsulas, islands and lakes across the continent. He could see the main inlets, but not the rivers, and he wished for more detail.
"It's a lot bigger than Narnia, that's for certain. From Archenland in the south to Ettinsmoor in the north is roughly one hundred miles," he said, "and from Caer Paravel to the mountains in the west is one hundred and fifty miles, and then it's the Western Wild. Although I suppose I'm not counting any of the islands in the Eastern Ocean."
He stepped forward then, and pointed at Hammerfell. "Is this arable land? I hope I'm reading the map correctly, but there doesn't seem to be many hills there and there's no mention of forests." His finger hovered over the map after that as he looked at the location where Ysmir said he'd been born. "Were you born in the mountains? Or close to them?" That seemed like it would be exciting, with lots of climbing cliffs and the like.
