The last few days had been strange to Donny. She wasn't used to spending the holidays around people, let alone quite so many and despite being not a particularly observant Jew, she usually lit her menorah for Hanukkah. It was more a tradition than a belief, so being exposed to so much Christmas celebration was curious and interesting. The mistletoe, for example, had been a fun discovery. It was curious to her that people who would never kiss one another at any other time would swap embraces because it was the longest day of the year. Donny had embraced the gift-giving, though. For Mitch she'd purchased a particularly gorgeous weapon that she suspected he might enjoy playing with. The Smith & Wesson Model 3 had been quite a find in mall-world. Not something Donny had ever thought she'd see in the flesh due to it's rarity, but it sure was pretty! Probably didn't shoot for shit, but from one assassin to another it was the thought that counted. She'd also enjoyed the Secret Santa and purchasing designer clothes for someone else made for an interesting change. Now she was crashing out in their room, reading a book she'd put off for years (it was amazing how many of those there were, she found). It was strange how she'd settled into this life with Mitch and it felt comfortable and familiar now. They didn't live in one another's pockets, but they were able to share the space easily and without conflict. Which, given their chosen professions, was a good thing! As if he'd been summoned by thought alone, Mitch opened the door of their room and walked in. "I will get through 'War and Peace' if it kills me," she told him with a raised eyebrow. "Probably. Unless you have anything better to distract me with?" Donny put down the book and gave him a pleading grin, "please distract me!" |
