It's been a week since Giles walked into the hotel instead of the Magic Box, and for the past week, he's spent the overwhelming majority of his time trying to figure out how to get back home again. It's been useless, though. A complete waste of time. It's not that he wasn't told there wasn't a way to get back again, but it would have been remiss if he hadn't at least made the attempt. The timing really couldn't have been worse. He spent the last year feeling obsolete and adrift - Buffy clearly didn't need him any more, his position at Sunnydale High's school library went up in a fiery explosion along with the town's demon mayor and a whole lot of TNT. He had been planning to return home to England, when suddenly there's been a shift the past couple weeks that made him decide to abandon those plans. Buffy wanted to begin training with him again, he procured a magic shop that, upon looking at the record books, had generated a higher profit than he ever would have expected, and the day before he was due to open the shop, he walked into the store and... Into the hotel. Back into a life with no job, and no real purpose to speak of. He doesn't even have his own room. Not that he minds his roommate, but he hasn't regularly shared accomodations with anyone since his Ripper days. Ysmir, at least, is not Ethan Rayne, so he can be grateful for that. Still he'd be lying to himself if he didn't admit it had been a bit of an adjustment. To make things worse, there seems to have been a recent exodus of... guests? Prisoners? He's not sure what to consider himself and the other residents, really. Some of them are even people who rather would have just stayed put. And yet here he remains, despite desperately wanting to get back home. Bloody Hotel California. On the upside, he's discovered the bar, and he's even managed to find himself an acceptable bottle of scotch. So he's seated at a table by himself, gloomily nursing his drink. |
