He listened attentively, his expression softening. His head tilted, leaning against one of the shelves. Louis removed the blank silk ribbon that held his hair back in a ponytail and placed it into the pages where he left off in his book. Then, he placed the book aside to give the other his full, undivided attention.
"Different vampires? I didn't realize there was more than one of our kind. I looked everywhere for other vampires centuries ago. And please, don't apologize for anything at all."
He smiled gently when she spoke of love, and he nodded.
"Yes, I have loved him for nearly three centuries, now. I was a stubborn and impudent fledgling, I will admit. I suppose I was not yet ready to lose my sense of humanity. It's still there, however. I've eventually come to terms with being a vampire. Needing to feed off the living to survive. But there's no evil behind my... erm... kills."
He gave a sheepish smile.
"But it's always just wonderful to have someone you care for to keep you company. Especially here. When I first arrived, I worried about how I'd adapt to things here. Then I saw Lestat and I felt... safe. Like I'm somehow involved in another one of his shenanigans. Except this time, it isn't his doing. Or at least he says so."
