The only thing Rey had gone back into her room for the night before had been her staff, careful to navigate around her two roommates. She was not in her right mind. She couldn't be, with the dark thoughts rushing through her head. She fought them fiercely, but they fought back just as hard. The black tendril of power creeping around the light trying to strangle it the more upset she had gotten. The exchange on the network had shaken her, and she was certain Finn could feel it. It was another reason she didn't want to face him; wanted space. There was something glorious about basking in such a sickeningly strong emotion, something that she didn't want to admit. She just wanted to hold on to it a little longer, despite the nagging voice in the back of her head telling her she needed to stop. If Luke could see her now, would he try to cut her down as he did Ben? Would Leia simply be disappointed? Leaning on her staff, she looked out over the water, remembering her short time on Ahch-To. She'd been so eager to learn and then so eager to teach, but she could not even train her own emotions. How could she hope to train Finn? Rey wasn't sure what she was expecting to do when she'd actually have to come in contact with Hux, but this was not the way she thought it'd happen. Maybe they'd have to pass each other uncomfortably in the hallway or avoid each other at another party, but this? The direct contact and then saying he'd talked to Poe. Maybe it was a ploy to tear them apart, but she didn't want to find out if she was wrong. She didn't know what she would do. She trusted Poe and let him in. The hotel had created a place where she'd felt safe enough to explore things and now she'd done what she did best. Ran off to deal with things alone. She'd barely had a moment to herself since she'd arrived, sitting with one, the other, or both happily as if nothing was wrong and waiting for the next adventure. She couldn't help but feel stupid. When the little orange and white droid rolled against her leg and beep booped, she didn't look down at him. "You can go back if you want." She just needed a little longer. |
