I don't want all of that darkness to come between us while we're still getting to know each other." Eventually, he's sure he'll feel that they can talk about such things without the potential of scaring her away, but because that's happened to him so many times in the past, it's a persistent fear.
He considers her question for a moment. "I suppose I do. It might depend on what you mean by simple things though." Malcolm had a lot of nice clothes and other expensive things back home because money was never an object. "If you mean experiences, then yes, I do."
