lyre (līr) n. A stringed instrument of the harp family having two curved arms connected at the upper end by a crossbar, used to accompany a singer or reciter of poetry, especially in ancient Greece.
A lyrate lifeform is therefore one which resembles the shape of either a lyre or a leaf. I am shaped like the instrument. I do not have lobes.
