Dan looked round at Newt. "So how long have you been here, Newt?" he asked, and then shifted how he was sitting. He was cross-legged on the jetty now, and ignoring how the water on the soles of his feet were getting the back of his jeans damp.
"Found anything to do? I think I'd try fishing from here if I could find any fishing rods," he added, and started stacking some of the flatter stones he'd lifted earlier.
