This whole roller skating setup, it sure did remind Richie of his youth, of days long gone and previously forgotten. Plenty of outdoor skating happened when he'd slap on a pair of street wheels to his sneakers and go cruising (and bruising, because Richie was one clumsy muppet). Derry didn't have an indoor roller skating rink like this one though, but he knew what they were like because sometimes he could finagle a trip to a rink out of town, just for a few hours (if his mom could be fucked to drive him) - the smell of popcorn hanging in the air, the thrills and chills of Ms. Pac Man, endless smooth maplewood surrounded by perpetually stained red carpet. It was pretty great. Right now, he wasn't here to skate - it'd be perfect opportunity, considering how vast and empty the space was, but he hadn't donned those wheels in years and would probably end up tripping and busting his head open on something; so it was a no from him, dude. But he did grab a bottle of vodka from the bar, and two shot glasses - it was neon electric, the shade of blue, and probably tasted a little like raspberry. But it would go down easy so that was all he cared about - he didn't feel like mixing it with anything. He'd decided to take Nicky up on his offer to Talk, or for Storytime, whatever - something that had Richie feeling anxious and like he needed a pull from Eddie's gazebo inhaler, even if it was bullshit. But this was real anxiety because he'd never talked about this with anyone, and there were a few people here he wanted to talk about it with, but he also wanted to not be a hot mess while doing so. Because he couldn't just pick one Loser to tell something like this to - it would have to be all at once otherwise it'd look like he was playing favorites or some shit and he just wasn't ready for that, so. Maybe slowly opening up was best. And drinking. Lots of that. So he picked an empty black leather (it was probably faux-leather) couch, sinking into it and worked on cracking open the vodka while he waited for Nicky to show. |
