"That's fucked up." A friend tried to blackmail him? Really? Rude. The rest of it was also bad, but she wasn't even sure how to properly digest that information.
"Mostly just normal people," she said. "That's if you don't know about the Night Worlders. Witches, vampires, shifters, werewolves, dragons are all the ones I know about. If there's anything more, no one's mentioned them at all." Daphne shrugged. "They try to blend in. When you find out what they are, they kill you, buuuuut," she said finding a pot to place on the stove. "My best friend's a vampire hunter and her soulmate is an older vampire with a really big bad reputation, and I joined this sort of small resistance movement to fight back against the whole murdering everyone who knows the secret policy."
When he asked what her day job was, she blinked. She was actually imagining him in some eyeliner. Possibly some lip gloss? He'd definitely look cute. She was just so focused on him that she actually flushed a bit pink before answering.
"High school drop out, full time daybreaker." There was a pause as she tried to figure out how to explain it. "Old magic is pulling Night Worlders and humans together in soul bonds and they can't live without each other. They're like super in love and super connected. Some of the community is taking it as a sign that they're supposed to live in harmony with humans, so they've created a haven. I help protect that."
