She'd done some terrible things in her time, but seeing Elena's reaction to everything that had happened in Mystic Falls broke Bonnie's heart. Maybe she shouldn't have shown her? But how could they be there fully for one another without her knowing the truth?
"You were there," Bonnie answered softly as she looked Elena in the eye. "You were here," she said putting her hand to her heart, "and all we wanted was to get you back where you belonged." It hadn't always been so simple, though, particularly when she'd become the Huntress.
"I don't think I did manage," she said honestly, admitting it for the first time. "I went to Paris after...everything," Bonnie said, "because it was where we were going to get married. Or engaged, or whatever. It was somewhere Enzo was going to take me, so I went without him. I think I was just looking for a way to feel close to him again," she explained to Elena. "It didn't work, though, and when I came back to Mystic Falls it was to find a way to get him back. Which I didn't tell you. I tried to pretend everything was okay and that I'd found peace," and with Damon and Elena's reunion it had been easy to pull off.
Bonnie held onto her friend tightly. There'd been a time she'd never thought this would happen again and as much as she loved Enzo, it was also a relief having Elena back. "I think, maybe this is the best thing for us," she said of her and Enzo, "but you have Damon waiting for you. He gave so much to get you back, it wouldn't be fair to keep you," she said pulling away and looking Elena in the eyes. "Although I wish I could, because I've missed you too," she told her with a smile.
