Kate attempts to relax a little after all the "excitement"
PG | OPEN TO MULTIPLES
Haunted hotel. Weird Wonderland type world with monsters and freaky costumes — the meat dress had not been a favorite for her... not in the slightest, monsters that gave Culebras a run for their money... and Seth's disappearance. Kate was tired. She was tired of the monsters, she was tired of living a life that most people couldn't even imagine, she was tired of being a pawn or a fighter or bait.
Kate Fuller was just plain exhausted.
Her mother always told her that God gave his hardest battles to his strongest believers. Her mother also took her own life when her depression became too much.
Her father preached every Sunday about the various trials, tribulations, and victories from the Bible. Her father was dead by her own hand in a labyrinth buried under a strip club after being bitten by a Culebra.
Her brother... he'd been adopted into their messed up family in an effort to give him a better life. Now he was a Culebra and Kate didn't even know where he was.
And Kate herself? She'd been a good girl. She'd been such a good girl. Always in the front pew every Sunday. Always volunteering to help whenever possible. Always, always a good preacher's daughter.
Except when she wasn't.
There had been several times when this whole thing started with her mother if it was her fault. If kissing Kyle in the back pew of the church was something that she was being punished for.
She'd learned quickly that that was not the case. That sometimes bad things just happened. Sometimes bad things had to happen for people to grow. But did she have to grow this much? Did she have to fight her way out of a labyrinth full of Culebras? Did she have to lose the people closest to her over and over again to circumstances beyond her control? Was she destined to live with the nightmares that came from being possessed by Amaru forever?
She'd died. Shot twice in the stomach by a narcissistic conquistador Culebra over the blood of the demon queen that possessed her after. She supposed that was something she should be grateful for; that Amaru brought her back from the dead. But there were always consequences.
Consequences and nightmares and exhaustion.
Which was what she was trying to rid herself of for the time being. She'd been desperate to find some way to relax and just let go for a little while. So when she found the Sauna in the basement not long after her arrival, she'd made a mental note to check it out, perhaps with Seth in tow.
Now she was here, without Seth, but still here. Wrapped in a towel with her clothing in a backpack just outside of the doors on a bench.
She closed her eyes and leaned back on the seat, hoping the steam and heat would help settle her and she could finally let go of the tension she'd felt for the last three years. The only thing that was out of place was the stake that she kept in her hand, knowing that should she need to use it, there would be very little in the way of stopping her.
