There was something deep and unnerving about the sight of his home when Edgar came around the corner and the edge of the fence came into view. It didn't appear to have anything wrong on the outside, there were still two pots stacked outside of the front door on the stoop which had a large crack. There was the usual glow of orange light coming from the windows and no more then the usual amount of smoke coming from the chimney. To everyone that past it seemed for all intents and purpose a regular home on a regular street, with regular neighbors and just the right amount of Christmas lights adorning the street lamps.
But there was something in the air that left a fowl taste in his mouth. A burning that tasted familiar and sheared his very taste buds.
It wasn't till he reached the front steps that his blood ran cold. A scream. Brianna.
Heart racing, he dropped his satchel and pulled out his wand, readying it for what might be behind the door. As the door swung back the entire room seemed to be alight with the glow of green and the world seemed to slow down. As he stood breathless in the doorway he watched his wife's limp form crumble to the ground, her wand broken and tossed off to the side.
There was a handful of Death Eaters in masks, poised around Brianna's dead body, several of their wands pointed at her form, a few others pointed towards the twins but there were no cries from the infants. The anger and frustration and grief washed over him, welling up inside as he stood wand raised in defense.
As the truth of what had happened ran through his mind, his grip tightened. Tears of anguish welled up in his eyes and he pointed his wand at the nearest Death Eater screaming off a spell he couldn't even remember learning.
