Providence scurried into the kitchen, dropping the kitten off at the base of the stairs, and snapping a banana off the bunch in the fridge. She dashed back, retracing her steps with speed but care. She held the banana out before her like a holy relic, all at once terrified she would drop it and smash it beneath her clumsy feet and wondering madly at her silly, stupid little plan.
Well, it was worth a shot.
Stepping back through the door of the Matthew, she closed it carefully behind her, making certain Annie had not followed her and the scent of chilled fruit.
"Here, you do it," Providence said, throwing the banana into Ephraim's hand. She was not interested in trying to talk the stubborn little monkey down.
