Luna had a habit of stealing clothes out of Rolf’s closet when she was bored of her own. Sometimes she even made them her own. Part of the fun was waiting to see when he’d actually bother to notice that something had gone missing. When Teddy got sticky, melted gummy worms on the one she had been wearing it had made for a good excuse to steal a new one from Rolf. It went well with her unicorn pajamas bottoms! More than anything the outfit was warm and comfortable. That made logical sense for ‘camping out’ even if it was in doors.
She smiled and laughed with her eyes as she watched him maneuver to retrieve the last of the pizza for her. She didn’t care if there was congealed squid or not. It was better cold and as soon as she reached over Teddy to retrieve it from him, it moved toward her face. Some of the sauce got on her face but she didn’t care to go and remove it. Maybe she didn’t notice it. Perhaps she didn’t care. The latter was probably closer to the truth.
“I think he did like your story,” Luna agreed with Rolf. She had liked the story as well though. She and her father hadn’t really done these sorts of things when she was a child. They went looking for creatures but when they were home she was always taking care of him. Her mother had been the one who liked to read stories. Maybe it reminded her of life before her mother died but the older she got the harder it was to remember how things had been. This was a bit how she imagined it might have been though. “I liked your story as well. Will you read me another one before bed? Maybe something about the Crumpled Horned Snorkack?”
There wasn’t a whole lot of room in the tent but there was enough for the lot of them. She made mental note that next time they were going to have to make it taller for Rolf. A stand of periwinkle fairy lights along the edges had been her personal idea just in case Teddy was afraid of the dark. The shimmery shades of light were pleasant though she did have to look hard to make out the features of Rolf’s face.
“If I can’t have a puppy can I keep Teddy?” she asked after a moment with the slightest hint of a smile on her face. Harry wouldn’t be too thrilled with the idea but Luna liked the idea of having Teddy around more. She said it mostly because she knew Rolf was probably at his wits end over the puppy issue. One day she’d make him agree. He’d budge eventually. “I might like him better than you. He’d let me have a puppy.”
