Pansy washed quickly, her hair dripping down her back in wet tendrils. It had been a dreadful day so far as days went. The McLaggen/Edgecombe wedding had been nice on Saturday, but Draco had been out of town and so she had gone alone. Blaise ended up escorting her and it was quite fun, even if McLaggen and Edgecombe were obviously a bit soft in the head. Horrible couple and everyone knew it, but Pansy was fine with letting people make there own imbecellic decisions, so long as they didn't affect her directly. The dreadful part came about when Penelope had told her that Mummy would be returning that afternoon - early. Pansy had rushed to get the house in order, sending elves to clean, dust and straighten the already immaculate house, but oh it wasn't enough and Mummy would certainly want to go to lunch and Pansy knew she had best go ahead and bathe because Mummy would hate for her to be anything less than perfectly polished and ready to go when she arrived.
There was a gentle rap at the door and Mummy stepped in, setting down gracefully on the toilet. Pansy sat up and gaver her a hesitant smile. Oh, she was back sooner than even Penelope had thought. Oh, that meant Mummy was on a mission. Christmas at the manor was going to be lovely. Pansy had been planning for months, but Mummy on a mission didn't bode well.
"Hello, Pet. Just washing up, are we?" Mummy stroked Pansy's hair as she drew her knees up to her chest. She gave her mother another smile before turning to look at her toes under the water of the faucet. "Penelope tells me you had such a good time at the wedding this weekend." Pansy swallowed and nodded.
"Yes, Mummy. It was very nice, even for the Edgecombes. I danced with Gregory Goyle for one turn - you wouldn't recognize him, Mummy. He's gotten quite tall." Pansy smiled but inside her heart was racing. Mummy wouldn't be please that she'd gone without Draco and she hoped Penelope hadn't mentioned that part. Mummy adjusted the taps, turning up the hot water a bit and Pansy curled her toes as they warmed back up.
"Oh, that's good Pet. The Goyles were always such good friends of Daddy's." Pansy nodded and watched Mummy apprehensively as she scooped up some water in the bath cup. "Just like the Malfoys." Oh, she knew. Pansy knew that Mummy knew. "How was Draco, dearest?"
"Draco was in France, Mummy... visiting some friends." Mummy just made a low humming noise in her throat, adjusting the taps again. Pansy's toes curled at the heat and she drew her legs up closer to herself. "I went with Blaise. We had a very good time Mummy and -" Pansy cut herself off as Mummy poured a full cup of scalding water over her head and down her back. The bathroom echoed Pansy's cry for only a brief moment because Mummy was grabbing her chin and snatching her closer, causing Pansy's eyes to snap open despite the pain.
"Don't I feed you?" Pansy nodded shakily, her mothers nails digging into her cheeks just enough not to leave marks. "Don't you like living with Mummy? Having these nice things?" Pansy nodded again, her blue eyes wide and unblinking as she watched Mummy. "Good. I know you forgot how important being nice to the Malfoys is, Pet. We all forget sometimes and that's why Mummy reminds you." Mummy released Pansy's jaw before smoothing her pale hand and manicured nails over Pansy's wet head.
"We will have Narcissa and Draco over this Saturday in apology. You will write a letter of thanks to the Blaise and a nice letter to Gregory, thanking him for the dance." Mummy stood, wiping her hands on the wash cloth hanging near the sink. "Get dressed and come downstairs for lunch. We will visit Daddy after." Pansy nodded and sat still and erect in the tub until she couldn't here the click of Mummy's shoes any longer. She stood then, dried off and wrapped the towel around her before heading to get dressed. Mummy was right and she'd just have to do better.
