She flashed him a curious look. "You don't?" she queried. That was peculiar. She was so sure. But then, she'd pegged people wrong before. It wasn't like she'd the best interpersonal skills in recent times. And it wasn't like she was exactly ready to begin work on them. That would be too much, too soon.
And then she recalled that she didn't want to know. Because then she might have to change her mind and admit where she was wrong, and then she'd feel worse because of all her defensive behaviour prior. Sometimes Madeline thought she ought to come with a warning label and a manual.
"That's the Portkey," she informed him and drew out her wand. She hesitated. "I.. don't know that," pause, "I want to go out," fidget. "So unless you want to go by yourself, I'll um," tuck back hair, "deactivate it now."
Urgh. She felt like a freak show and didn't know how to stop. Cue Madeline drawing her smoke to her lips and inhaling.
